Dr. Vassilios Bitounis, MD Bristol, Ph.D, FRCS Ed, Orthopaedic Surgeon


He practices general orthopaedics and his particular scientific interest is the surgery of the hip and knee joints and the total joint replacements.


Mr. Bitounis graduated from the Athens University – Medical School where he studied from 1971 till 1977. After his obligatory military service at the district, he was trained in Orthopaedic surgery (1980-1984) in the University Department of Orthopaedics in Athens. During this time he also submitted his Ph.D. thesis in the Athens University which was approved and he was awarded the title of Doctor (1988).

From 1984 till 1999 Mr. BItounis trained and worked in the University Department of Orthopaedics, in Bristol, UK. He worked under Professor Louis Solomon and he developed a particular interest in the treatment of arthritis and the surgery of the hip and knee joints. He also created the “Combined Clinic” between the Orthopaedic Department and the Department of Rheumatology where chairman was the Prof. Paul Dieppe.

During these years with the support of the “Arthritis and Rheumatism Council” he wrote and submitted another thesis with title “Characterization of the Subsets of Osteoarthritis of the Hip” and he was awarded the highest title in the University, named M.D. Bristol.


Member of the Royal College of Surgeons.

Was President of the Greek Orthopaedic Association.

Senior Lecturer in the University of Bristol.

Visiting Professor of the University of Salonica.


He has published extensively and he has been key-note speaker in numerous scientific meetings.
